John Steele

John Steele is the founder, publisher, and executive editor of Blue Continuum, a digital and print publication exploring science, nature, and humanity’s place in the universe.

In 2013, Steele founded Nautilus, which became both a critical and popular success, winning two National Magazine Awards and the Webby Award for Best Science Website.

Before Nautilus, Steele worked with Ted Forstmann at IMG/Forstmann Little, developing television, film, and publishing projects. He began his career at CBS News and later joined NBC News, where he served as Rome bureau chief and, subsequently, as an Olympic news producer for NBC Sports. His work on the Olympic Games earned him two Emmy Awards.

Steele has also developed documentaries for PBS, including Destination America, 1421: The Year China Discovered America, and My Shakespeare.

Born in Idaho, Steele earned a degree in philosophy from the University of Utah.
